Team Emirates New Zealand aims for another victory in Americas Cup

Interview with Tom Waterhouse, Commercial Manager, Emirates Team New Zealand, 3 times winners of the America's Cup.

What made you want to work with Teng Tools in the first place?
Emirates Team New Zealand were looking for a trustworthy and reliable hand tool partner for its 36th America’s Cup defence campaign. The team did some research and easily determined that Teng Tools was the best hand tool partner to work with. The team operates in a technologically focused and innovative environment where high pressure situations demand the best; Teng Tools deliver over and above.

How has using the Teng Tools ‘Get Organised’ system benefited the team?
Having access to a range of quality tools and storage units across the team base allows the team to be more effective with the repair and maintenance of the race yachts, the team base, and the fleet of chase boats. The storage solutions come in a range of sizes with both fixed and mobile units that allow the team to work with ease and have tools on hand whatever the task.

What are the most essential tools in your kit that you cannot live without?
Most essential tools would be your traditional screwdrivers and 1/4, ³⁄₈ and 1/2 inch drive socket sets, as long as you have these tool combinations by your side you can usually repair most mechanical issues that arise.

Has the Coronavirus Lockdown affected your preparations in any way?
The level 4 lockdown in NZ meant that the team had to stop construction of its race yacht but with NZ out of full lockdown after only 4 weeks the team has now made up for the lost time and are again on track with the defence campaign timelines.

What are your expectations/targets for the Americas Cup 2021?
The team’s target is to successfully defend the 36th America’s Cup in Auckland, New Zealand.
